Intermediate Screw Base (E-17) Bulbs are sometimes called Intermediate Edison Screw (IES), "E" stands for "Edison" and "17" indicates the diameter in millimeters as measured across the peaks of the thread on the base, e.g., E-17 base bulbs have a diameter of 17 mm. Intermediate Screw Base (E-17) light bulbs have a single contact on the bottom and are commonly used as indicators, in toys and in holiday decorations.
